Safety and use

Our building kits are laser-cut from wood. Read this before building.

TODO legal review: Have the age claims and warnings reviewed against the Toy Safety Directive 2009/48/EC and the General Product Safety Regulation; decide per product whether CE marking and the 0-3 warning symbol are required.

Age and supervision

  • The legal minimum age is on every product page. Kits with small parts are not suitable for children under 3 years: choking hazard.
  • The building advice (for example "from 8 years") is about difficulty, not safety. Children should always build under adult supervision.

Tools and materials

  • Parts are pushed out of the sheet by hand. Use a hobby knife to trim remnants if needed, cutting away from your body.
  • Use water-based wood glue. Glue in a ventilated room and keep glue out of reach of children.
  • Lightly sand sharp edges with fine sandpaper (180 grit or finer).
  • Laser-cut edges are slightly darkened; that is soot, not a defect. Wash your hands after building.

Assembly

  1. Lay out all parts and compare them with the parts list in the manual.
  2. Dry-fit the parts without glue.
  3. Glue only when everything fits. Let the glue dry for 24 hours before loading the product.
  4. Treat outdoor products with a suitable varnish or oil; untreated wood is not weatherproof.

Use

Building kits are decorative or intended for the stated use (for example a birdhouse). They are not meant to be stood or sat on unless the product page says so explicitly. Keep wood away from open flames.
